Question(s?) regarding the famous Channel Spell!

[:1]Hi, I just started making a map, which is gonna be a dota-sort-of-map-(not-a-rip-off-though-:)) and Ofc im planning to use Channel as base spell for all my custom spells, only ive never done it before, and the first thing i noticed is that it differs alot from other spells...

1: I cant make it deal damage

2: I cant give it an AoE (yes i have set it to "target point)

3: I cant give it the vissual effect i want. (i want a missle effect using MortarTeam missile) That is, i cant make a "missile art" for the spell.

4: do i have to trigger all above?|||Yes; you would need triggers to do all of that.

Check out CHUNK's tutorial on dummy casters, as this should get you on the right track:

1. You can't make abilities that don't normally deal damage do so, so in what way is channel any different?

2. You can't make spells that don't normally have an AoE have one, so in what way is channel any different?

3. You can't make spells that don't normally have missile art have it, so in what way is channel any different?

4. Yes.

What makes channel special is that you can change the baseorderID - which allows you to have as many abilities based on channel on one unit that you want (provided you set them all to have different baseorderIDs. What makes channel special is that you can change it from a unit-target, to a point-target, to an instant ability, which you cannot do with any other abilities. The point isn't to use channel just to make yourself feel special for knowing to use it, but rather using it because it is very useful as an easily-modified base ability.

If your abilities would be better served by using some other base ability, and you are using Channel just to make yourself seem pro or something, then you are just wasting your time. Channel makes a great base ability for triggered abilities - but other abilities might be more appropriate if you aren't triggering the damage or you need a missile or you want some ability effect that you don't necessarily have to trigger.|||Quote:

dang, didnt think that far. now i feel stupid :)

ok, ive tested some triggers but i cant find the one that adds missile. Also, for example, lets say i wanna make a flame thrower, and when its cast i want the ground to turn red (simply change the texture is what i mean).... How do I make it so the ground changes precisely under the flame, and can i make the texture change in the same rate as the flame moves? Also, how to add a "timer" to the new texture, so that it dissapears after X time? thx. I've really searched all (to me) possible triggers|||Hi im alton
